I Hate Bridesmaids Dresses

31 Aug 2008 In: Fashion

Does anyone actually like them? When I first started looking around I decided that I didn’t want the girls in the same dress, but they did need to coordinate. So after much searching I found a line that I love, Amsale‘s Jersey collection. The colors are great and because they’re made out of a knit fabric they are definitely wearable again. Here’s what I’m thinking, each girl will wear a different dress from the collection in a different (but coordinating) color. I’m a big dork and photoshopped the dresses together so I could get a feel for what it’ll look like on the wedding day:

Cake Tastings

31 Aug 2008 In: Eats & Drinks

Last time we were in Nashville we went to a couple cake tastings, and I think we decided on a vendor.

Our first tasting was with The Bake Shoppe. They had about eight different cake samples for us to try which consisted of Apricot Pound, Sour Cream Almond, Strawberry Pound, Red Velvet, Traditional White, Traditional Chocolate, Cherry, and Kahlua Chocolate (I think). These were some seriously yummy cakes, I would have asked for seconds if it hadn’t been a tasting. The girl who met with us was extremely helpful, she worked with us on a sketch of the cake design and helped us select complimentary flavors. We ended up picking sour cream almond & kahlua chocolate for the first tier, red velvet for the second, and strawberry for the third. Overall we were really happy with this vendor, but wanted to wait until we met with everyone before making a decision.

Our second tasting at Maples was a little more eventful, but not exactly in a good way. We made an appointment outside of their normal business hours since we were only going to be in town over the weekend. After driving about an hour from where we stay in Nashville we discovered that no one was at the bakery, so I called and got the answering machine which luckily had the owner’s cell phone number listed for emergencies. So I called and it turned out he had forgotten about our appointment. He was extremely apologetic, so much so that it was impossible to be mad at him. He came right in and got the tasting ready for us. I think we tasted about six flavors consisting of sour cream almond, strawberry, lemon, chocolate, carrot cake, and one more I can’t remember. The sour cream almond was wonderful, but the rest were just OK. Their cake designs are out of this world, anyone that can put a broach on a cake is alright in my book. But, there wasn’t anything really spectacular about the flavor … and it freaked us all out that they forgot about our appointment (I don’t want there to be any chance of hearing “Oh, today is your wedding day??” from my baker).

So it looks like we’re going with The Bake Shoppe, we’ll probably go back and meet with them again to talk about catering since they do that as well.

We Have a Photographer!

After much research we’ve finally found the photographer. We decided to go with Reeder Photography, if you check out his portfolio you’ll see that the vast majority of photos are candid instead of posed. He specializes in photojournalism and he and his wife will be by our side all day long for the wedding.

New Site

19 Aug 2008 In: Uncategorized

If you’ve visited before you’ll notice that the new site is now up and running. The old site was a little cumbersome to update, and the more I thought about it the more a blog made sense. So I’ll be posting updates here to chronicle our wedding planning. I’m still trying to talk Pete into making a post or two, but he looked at me like I had two heads when I told him it would be fun. So we’ll have to see how that goes.

I’ve put up some static pages at the top for information on various events and travel info. If I’m missing something feel free to ask for it. Check back soon for more posts!
