Honeymoon is Booked

9 Apr 2009 In: Travel

We booked our honeymoon tonight! We’re going to leave the Monday after our wedding to go to Puerto Vallarto for seven days. Pete’s father was incredibly generous and offered up his amex points to help fund the trip. We’ll be staying at Riu Palace Pacifico right on the beach.

Cermony Musician Part 2

9 Apr 2009 In: Music

It looks like we have lucked out and scored a duo for the ceremony! Our violinist was able to get me in touch with a cellist, Hailee Vance, who we have confirmed to play at the ceremony as well. The selections are going to include “All you Need is Love” by The Beatles, “Canon in D”, and “Trumpet Voluntary”.

Drink Calculator

7 Apr 2009 In: Eats & Drinks, Planning, Tools

Have you ever seen the charts online or in wedding planning books that recommend how much alcohol to stock for the reception? I’m not sure where they get their information, but they definitely did not survey our guests. Take for example my (completely useless) wedding planning book, it recommends stocking one drink, per person, per hour (ha!). It also recommends buying 3 fifths of gin, but only one case of red wine and two cases of beer. Apparently it was written in 1942.

But, like many other couples, we’re planning to just have wine, beer, and a signature cocktail. So, what do we do then wedding book? No answer, huh?

Well, the internet has an answer. Check out this nifty drink calculator I found on Evite. You can actually designate how many heavy drinkers you have, how long the event is, what type of alcohol you plan to serve, and ta da! It spits out a recommendation.

In case you’re curious, it recommended 313 bottles of beer and 63 bottles of wine for our reception (we’re just going to let the cocktail be the icing on the cake). Take that, useless wedding planning book.

Just Ordered the Shoes

6 Apr 2009 In: Fashion

I love DSW. Check out the adorable mary janes I just bought for the wedding day. Even with shipping included I got them for $34 since I had a rewards coupon.

See Pete, my shoes addiction is actually saving us money now!

My Dress Is In!

2 Apr 2009 In: Fashion

I am so excited, my wedding gown came in yesterday!! One of my bridesmaids, Michelle, met me at the bridal shop and I tried it on while she took pictures. It’s perfect and needs very little altering. The only major thing I’m thinking about changing is the sash. I might replace it with a lilac, champagne, or dark pink sash (like this).

You can see a picture of the dress here.

Pete: Do not even think about clicking that link!

Should I Change the Sash?

  • No, the white sash is classic (53%, 48 Votes)
  • Yes, I love a little splash of color (47%, 43 Votes)

Invitations Are Out The Door

31 Mar 2009 In: Paper

Well, almost. They are going in the mail tomorrow! Our good friend Laura was incredibly generous and offered to address the invitations for us, so she and I spent about three hours tonight getting them addressed and stuffed. Her handwriting is beautiful and adds the perfect final touch to the invitations. Here’s the finished product:

Nashville Bridal Shower

30 Mar 2009 In: Events

My shower in Nashville was this past Saturday and it was wonderful! Grandma, Melissa, and Mom did a great job putting everything together and hostessing. It was wonderful to celebrate with everyone and I’m incredibly thankful to have such a generous family. Mom caught me completely off guard by giving me a family heirloom I’ve always loved. If you look through the pictures you’ll see one of me covering up half my face because I cried when she gave it to me (I’m a sap, I know). Pictures mom took are below:

Disclaimer: The veil was not worn willingly, but everyone got a kick out of it so I went with it.

Wedding Band is in!

26 Mar 2009 In: Fashion, Planning

Since my engagement ring was my grandmother’s, and about sixty years old, we were having a really difficult time finding a wedding band for it. After much searching we talked to our jeweler, Huelsman Jewelers, and decided to ship my engagement ring off so we could have a wedding band custom made. It turned out amazing! I can’t speak highly enough about our jeweler, I can’t imagine we could have gotten better results anywhere else.

Invitations Are In!

23 Mar 2009 In: Paper

I am irrationally excited about this, we got our wedding invitations in today! They are Crane & Co. Plum Blossoms and turned out beautifully. We also got the final map design completed today, and are printing it on matching Crane & Co. ecru cardstock. We’re planning on getting them addressed, stuffed, and in the mail by the end of next week.

Bridesmaids Dresses Are In

21 Mar 2009 In: Fashion

Our bridesmaids dresses came in two weeks early so the St. Louis girls and I went to check them out today. They are style 765 by Bari Jay.  We did different coordinating colors for each dress, which I second guessed myself on after ordering. But, I think they are going to look great in a garden setting outdoors. Here are three out of four of the dresses.
